PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A coalition called 'Pittsburgh Works Together' believes Pittsburgh can lead the economic rebound because it has the necessary technology, energy, research and workforce.
"What this pandemic has shown us is real opportunities for us to think about how we rebuild the economy in this region. It won't happen overnight," said Duquesne Light CEO Steve Malnight during an online news conference.

Leaders say the pandemic showed the dangers of dependence on foreign manufacturing and need to bring manufacturing back to Western Pennsylvania.
Former Peoples Gas CEO Morgan O'Brien says there are multiple benefits. "To bring that manufacturing back into this country, to create jobs and opportunities for many people who have been left behind."
Executive Director Jeff Nobers says its also one answer to social justice issues. "Proven time and again, if you give people opportunity, if folks can be making $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 a year with good benefits, it stabilizes their lives."
The labor and business leaders released a platform calling for affordable energy, workforce development, infrastructure, a friendly business climate, and Pennsylvania first policy.
